Good News That Changes Lives
In 1738, a discouraged young preacher named John Wesley returned from America feeling like a failure. But one evening in London, as he listened to the reading of Martin Luther’s preface to Romans, he later wrote: “I felt my heart strangely warmed. I knew I did trust in Christ, Christ alone for salvation.” That night, the fire of revival began in his soul.
Paul begins his letter to the Romans with the very heartbeat of the Christian faith:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”
Romans 1:16 (NKJV)
Reflection:
The gospel is not good advice; it is good news. It is not man’s effort reaching up to God, but God’s power reaching down to man. Paul declares that this message saves anyone, regardless of race, status, or past sins, when they believe.
The world may scoff at the gospel, but we must never be ashamed of it. Why? Because it carries the very power of God to change lives. Wesley’s heart was warmed by it, countless lives have been transformed by it, and yours can be strengthened by it today.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gospel that saved me. Help me never to be ashamed of Your name. Give me boldness to share the good news and confidence to live it out daily. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Remember the Power: Write down how the gospel has changed your life.
- Live It Boldly: Don’t hide your faith today, look for one way to witness.
- Pray for the Lost: Ask God to soften the heart of one person in your life who doesn’t yet know Christ.
