Evang Ps. Kenneth Nandoha
For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.
Matthew 16:25-27
The Cost of True Discipleship:
In these verses, Jesus presents a profound truth about discipleship. He emphasizes that the desire to preserve one’s life and worldly pursuits can lead to spiritual loss. The cost of following Christ involves self-surrender, a willingness to let go of our own desires and ambitions. True discipleship requires us to relinquish control over our lives, trusting in God’s divine plan, even when it challenges our comfort and security.
The Incomparable Worth of the Soul:
Jesus questions the value of gaining the whole world if it means losing our own soul. Our souls are priceless, eternal entities that need to be nurtured and safeguarded. The pursuit of material wealth and temporary pleasures cannot compare to the infinite worth of our souls. Jesus invites us to invest in the eternal, focusing on the salvation and well-being of our souls above all else.
The Promise of Heavenly Reward:
In these verses, Jesus also assures us of the ultimate reward for those who lose their lives for His sake. He promises that the Son of Man will come in glory and will reward each person according to their works. Our selfless devotion and obedience to Christ do not go unnoticed; there is a heavenly reward awaiting those who faithfully follow Him, demonstrating love, compassion, and selflessness in their actions.
Today’s Blessings:
Dear Lord, we come before you with hearts open to your teachings. Help us to embrace the cost of true discipleship, surrendering our desires and ambitions at your feet. Teach us the immeasurable worth of our souls, and guide us to invest in the eternal rather than the temporary. Strengthen our resolve to follow you wholeheartedly, knowing that our ultimate reward is found in your presence. May our lives reflect the selfless love and obedience you have called us to. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
