Evang Ps. Kenneth Nandoha
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
Matthew 5:6
Introduction:
In our quest to understand the need for spiritual rebirth, let’s turn to the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:6: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” These words reveal the innate longing within us for fulfilment and righteousness.
Filling the Void:
We often try to fill the spiritual void in our lives with worldly pursuits—success, wealth, relationships, or pleasures. Yet, deep down, we know that these endeavours can only offer temporary satisfaction. True fulfilment, as Jesus indicates, comes from hungering and thirsting for righteousness.
Temporary Pleasures, Enduring Fulfillment:
The pursuits of the world may provide momentary pleasure, but they cannot satisfy the hunger of the soul. They are like a mirage in the desert, promising refreshment but leaving us thirstier than before.
The Deceptive Nature of Distractions:
The distractions and diversions that the world offers can blind us to our true need for righteousness and spiritual rebirth. They can lead us further away from the path that leads to lasting fulfilment.
The Invitation to Seek Righteousness:
Amidst the clamour of the world’s enticements, Jesus extends an invitation. He calls us to seek righteousness, to hunger and thirst for a deeper connection with God. It’s an invitation to embark on the transformative journey of being born again.
Today’s Blessings:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that long for fulfilment. We confess that we have often sought it in the wrong places, only to find ourselves empty and unfulfilled. Today, as we reflect on Your Word, we yearn to hunger and thirst for righteousness. May this hunger lead us to the wellspring of spiritual rebirth, where our souls can find true satisfaction. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
