Evang Ps. Kenneth Nandoha
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21
Works of the Flesh Exposed:
Paul begins by listing the “works of the flesh,” which are evident manifestations of a life lived apart from God’s Spirit. This catalog includes various sinful behaviors and attitudes that result from a focus on self rather than a surrender to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Contrasting with the Fruits of the Spirit:
This passage serves as a stark contrast to the earlier verses in Galatians 5 that speak of the fruits of the Spirit. While the works of the flesh lead to destructive patterns and separation from God, the fruits of the Spirit bring about qualities that reflect Christ-likeness, unity, and love.
The Call to Transformation:
Paul’s warning is clear: those who practice the works of the flesh will not inherit the kingdom of God. However, this is not a message of condemnation but an invitation to transformation. The believer is called to walk in the Spirit, allowing the transformative work of God to produce fruits that align with His kingdom.
Today’s Blessings:
Heavenly Father, I come before You with my heart open to Your transformative work. Help me to recognize and turn away from the works of the flesh, seeking instead the guidance of Your Holy Spirit. May the fruits of the Spirit manifest in my life, reflecting Your love, joy, peace, and goodness. Lead me in the paths of righteousness, that I may inherit Your eternal kingdom. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
