Restoration After Ruin

God Can Restore What Was Lost

In a quiet farming village, a plague of locusts wiped out nearly every crop. The farmers wept, not just for the season’s loss, but for the future. One old man knelt beside a broken stalk and prayed, “Lord, if You could make it rain, You can make it grow again.” The next year, their harvest doubled. The ruin became a testimony.

The prophet Joel declared hope after devastation:

“So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten…”
Joel 2:25a (NKJV)

Reflection:

We’ve all faced seasons of loss—broken relationships, missed opportunities, years spent in rebellion or regret. Sometimes we wonder, Can God really bring back what was taken?

Joel speaks to hearts grieving over wasted years. He reminds us: God doesn’t just forgive—He restores. His grace can turn famine into harvest, mourning into dancing, emptiness into overflow.

What have the “locusts” devoured in your life? Time? Joy? Vision? Trust the Restorer. He can do more in one year of healing than was lost in ten years of pain.

Prayer:

Lord, I bring before You every broken area of my life. Restore what I have lost. Heal my heart, redeem my time, and renew my joy. I trust You to bring beauty from ashes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Challenge:

  1. Reflect: Identify areas in your life that feel like they’ve been “eaten by locusts.”
  2. Declare restoration: Pray Joel 2:25 aloud over those areas.
  3. Encourage hope: Share this promise with someone who’s going through loss and pray with them.
