Living in Readiness for His Return
Years ago, a young sailor was rescued from a sinking ship by a fisherman. The fisherman not only saved his life but also took him in, taught him how to sail, and gave him a new future. The sailor would often say, “He didn’t just save me from drowning, he taught me how to live.”
The Apostle Paul tells us God’s grace does the same for us:
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
Titus 2:11–13 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Grace is not just a rescue from sin; it’s a teacher for holy living. Paul says grace trains us to turn away from what’s wrong and to live in a way that honours God.
We live between two great events: the cross where Jesus redeemed us, and the day He returns in glory. The “blessed hope” is not wishful thinking; it’s a confident expectation that shapes how we live now.
When we keep our eyes on His appearing, we find strength to say no to temptation and yes to godliness.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for saving me and for teaching me how to live. Help me to deny what is ungodly and to walk in Your ways every day. Keep my heart longing for Your return, and let my life be ready when You come. In Your name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Identify One Distraction: Remove or reduce something that pulls your heart away from godliness.
- Practice Readiness: Spend 10 minutes in prayer today, focusing on the hope of Christ’s return.
- Share the Hope: Tell one person today about the “blessed hope” found in Jesus.
