The Wisdom That Comes from God
When Dwight L. Moody was once asked the secret to his influence, he humbly replied, “For years I have prayed for one thing, that God would give me wisdom to win souls.” Moody understood that human wisdom was not enough; only God-given wisdom could change lives.
Young King Solomon realized the same truth when he was given the opportunity of a lifetime:
“Therefore, give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”
1 Kings 3:9 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Most people would ask for wealth, long life, or victory over enemies. Solomon asked for something greater, wisdom from above. He understood that leadership without God’s guidance would be empty.
We live in a world flooded with information but starving for wisdom. True wisdom is not just knowing facts; it is the ability to discern God’s will and walk in it. James reminds us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God” (James 1:5).
Like Solomon, you may feel the weight of responsibility, whether in your family, workplace, or ministry. But God delights to give wisdom to those who ask with humble hearts.
Prayer:
Father, I confess that my own wisdom is not enough. Give me a listening heart to discern Your will in every situation. Help me to lead my family, work, and life in a way that honors You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Ask for Wisdom: Tonight, pray specifically for God’s wisdom in one decision you are facing.
- Pause Before Acting: When challenged tomorrow, pause and ask, “Lord, what would please You here?”
- Pass It On: Share a Scripture or truth about wisdom with a younger believer or family member.
