Walking Humbly with God
In the 1700s, John Wesley of England traveled thousands of miles on horseback to preach the gospel. He once said, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” His life was a living example of what true faith looks like, simple obedience to God expressed in love and humility.
The prophet Micah captured this same truth in one of the most famous verses of the Old Testament:
“He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?”
Micah 6:8 (NKJV)
Reflection:
God is not impressed by empty rituals or outward religion. What He desires is a life marked by justice, mercy, and humility. John Wesley’s legacy reminds us that true greatness is not found in wealth or power, but in humble service to God and people.
Micah’s words are a timeless call: do right, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. This is not complicated religion, it is simple, daily obedience.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to walk humbly with You. Help me to act with justice, extend mercy to others, and live a life that reflects Your heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Justice: Do one small act of fairness or honesty today, even if no one is watching.
- Mercy: Show kindness to someone who doesn’t expect it.
- Humility: Spend a moment in prayer acknowledging your dependence on God.
