Discerning the Spirits

Evang Ps. Kenneth Nandoha

Evang Ps.Kenneth Nandoha

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this, you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming and is now already in the world. You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world. Therefore, they speak as of the world, and the world hears them.

1 John 4:1-5

Discernment Amidst Deception:
John begins with a heartfelt call to discernment. Not every spirit is of God, and the world is filled with false prophets. In a time where spiritual deception abounds, believers are urged to be discerning, testing the spirits to ensure they align with the truth of God’s Word. Discernment safeguards us from being led astray and allows us to stay grounded in the teachings of Christ.

Confession of Christ’s Incarnation:
John provides a litmus test for discernment – the acknowledgment of Jesus Christ coming in the flesh. Spirits that confess this truth are of God, while those that deny it are not. The incarnation is foundational to Christian doctrine, emphasizing Jesus’ divinity and humanity. True spiritual understanding aligns with the confession that Jesus is both fully God and fully human.

Overcoming by God’s Power:
Assurance is given to believers: they have overcome false spirits because the One dwelling within them is greater than the deceptive spirit in the world. The power of God, residing in believers through the Holy Spirit, triumphs over falsehood. This truth empowers us to navigate the challenges of discernment with confidence, knowing that God’s strength is greater than any deceptive force.

Today’s Blessings:
Heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom to discern the spirits in a world filled with deception. May Your Holy Spirit guide me to test everything against the truth of Your Word. Help me to confess and uphold the fundamental truth of Christ’s incarnation. Strengthen me with the knowledge that Your indwelling power in me is greater than any deceptive force in the world. Keep me anchored in Your truth, O Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
