Christ Our Defender
In a small-town courtroom, a young man stood guilty of breaking the law. Just before sentencing, a well-respected lawyer stepped forward and said, “Your honor, I will take responsibility for this man’s penalty.” The young man was spared, not because he was innocent, but because someone stood in his place.
The Apostle John gives us this assurance:
“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
1 John 2:1 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Sin brings guilt, shame, and separation. But John reminds us that we are not left defenseless. Jesus Christ, the righteous One, is our Advocate, our Defender, standing before the Father on our behalf.
Satan accuses. Our conscience condemns. But Christ intercedes. He doesn’t excuse our sin—He covers it with His blood and pleads for mercy with authority.
This truth should not lead us to take sin lightly, but to take Christ seriously. His advocacy is both a comfort and a call to holiness. Because He stands for us, we can stand strong against sin.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Advocate. When I fall, lift me up. When I am accused, defend me with Your righteousness. Help me to live not in guilt, but in gratitude for Your grace. In Your mighty name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Confess Quickly: Don’t carry guilt, bring your sin to Jesus and trust His forgiveness.
- Live Thankfully: Thank God today for specific times He has shown you mercy.
- Encourage a Friend: Remind someone struggling with guilt that Jesus is their Advocate.
