Holding Firm in a Shifting World
Charles Spurgeon once faced criticism for standing firmly on biblical truth when others in England’s churches began drifting toward liberal theology. He declared: “The Word of God is like a lion. You don’t have to defend a lion. All you have to do is let the lion loose, and the lion will defend itself.” His boldness reminds us of Jude’s urgent call to the church.
“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.”
Jude 1:3 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Jude wrote to a church under pressure, false teachers were distorting the gospel, and believers risked being led astray. His message? Don’t compromise. Stand firm.
Spurgeon’s voice in his day echoed the same, truth is not up for negotiation. Today, we too must contend for the faith, not with anger or pride, but with conviction and love. The gospel entrusted to us is worth defending.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, give me courage to stand firm in Your truth. Guard my heart from compromise and help me live boldly for the faith delivered to us. Amen.
Challenge:
- Examine: Are there areas where you’ve been compromising truth for comfort?
- Equip: Spend time in Scripture today to strengthen your foundation.
- Encourage: Share Jude 1:3 with someone who needs courage to stand firm.
