Strength for the Journey
During World War II, a group of weary soldiers trudged through the cold, ready to give up. One of them began quietly humming a hymn. Another joined in, then another, until the whole platoon was singing. The burden didn’t disappear, but their spirits lifted. They finished their march, not because the path was easier, but because they encouraged each other to keep going.
Paul gives a similar call to the believers in Thessalonica:
“Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Life is a long journey, and we all face seasons of weariness. God designed us not to walk alone, but to strengthen and build one another up. Encouragement is more than kind words—it’s a ministry.
When we lift each other’s spirits, we remind one another of God’s promises. Paul didn’t say if you feel like encouraging, he said do it. Every believer has this calling.
Ask yourself today: Who can I comfort? Who can I build up? You might be the very person God wants to use to keep someone else from giving up.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to be an encourager today. Show me who needs a word of hope, a listening ear, or a reminder of Your faithfulness. Let my words and actions strengthen others to keep walking with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Send a Message: Text or call someone with a simple word of encouragement today.
- Speak Life: In every conversation, try to add one statement that lifts the other person’s spirit.
- Pray for Someone: Ask God to bring someone to mind who needs His comfort, and pray for them by name.
