Persevering in the Call
In 1964, a young missionary doctor in Africa faced relentless challenges, disease outbreaks, scarce resources, and threats from local conflict. When asked why he stayed, he smiled and said, “Because the battle is worth it, and my Commander is faithful.” His words echo Paul’s charge to a young pastor named Timothy.
Paul wrote:
“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
1 Timothy 6:12 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Paul reminds Timothy, and us, that the Christian life is a battle, but it’s a good one. We’re not fighting for temporary victories; we’re fighting for eternal purposes.
The “good fight” is not about aggression toward people; it’s about resisting sin, standing on God’s truth, and enduring trials with hope.
Faith is not passive; it’s active, deliberate, and often costly. But in Christ, every effort, every sacrifice, every act of obedience matters.
Prayer:
Lord, give me strength to fight the good fight today. Help me to stand firm in Your Word, resist temptation, and live with eternity in mind. May my life reflect the hope I have in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Name Your Battle: Identify one spiritual challenge you’re facing and bring it to God in prayer.
- Stand Firm: Commit to reading at least one chapter of Scripture today as your weapon of truth.
- Encourage a Fellow Soldier: Reach out to another believer to strengthen them in their fight of faith.
