Living with Eternity in View
A wealthy businessman once told Billy Graham, “I have everything I could ever want, but I feel empty inside.” Billy gently responded, “You can fill your life with everything the world offers, but you will never be satisfied until you know God’s purpose for your life.”
King Solomon, the wisest and richest man of his time, wrote these profound words:
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all.”
Ecclesiastes 12:13 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Solomon experienced wealth, power, pleasure, and success, yet discovered that life “under the sun” is meaningless without God. Many today pursue material success, pleasure, and fame, hoping it will satisfy their longing for purpose, but find themselves empty and restless.
Solomon’s conclusion is clear: Life’s true purpose is to fear God and keep His commandments. To fear God is to honor, respect, and live in awe of Him, acknowledging that He alone is the source of true life. Keeping His commandments is not a burden but a pathway to true freedom and fulfillment.
Life on earth is fleeting, but what we do with it echoes into eternity. Living for God gives every moment meaning, turning ordinary days into opportunities to honor Him. As you prepare to rest tonight, reflect on whether you are living for temporary pursuits or for God’s eternal purpose.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that life without You is empty. Help me to live with eternity in mind, fearing You and keeping Your commandments. Fill my heart with purpose that comes from knowing and walking with You daily. Teach me to honor You in all I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
1️⃣ Reflect on areas of your life where you may be chasing things that do not truly satisfy.
2️⃣ Read Ecclesiastes 12 tonight before you sleep, asking God to teach you to live for what truly matters.
3️⃣ Share with a friend or family member what it means to live with eternity in view and invite them to join you in pursuing God’s purpose.
