Strength for the Journey of Faith
In 1955, a young man came forward at one of Billy Graham’s crusades. He confessed that he had accepted Christ years earlier but had never grown spiritually. Billy placed a hand on his shoulder and said gently, “Son, salvation is the beginning, not the end. Now you must grow in grace, just as a child grows after birth.” That young man went on to become a faithful pastor, nurtured by God’s Word and prayer.
Peter gives us the same exhortation in his final letter:
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”
2 Peter 3:18 (NKJV)
Reflection:
The Christian life is not static; it is a journey. Salvation is the new birth, but growth comes through daily surrender, prayer, and study of God’s Word.
Just as a tree sinks deeper roots to withstand storms, so must we deepen our roots in Christ. Growth in grace means becoming more like Jesus in character, humility, and love. Growth in knowledge means knowing Him more intimately, not just facts about Him.
The good news is this: God doesn’t ask us to grow alone. His Spirit guides us, His Word nourishes us, and His grace sustains us.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for saving me by Your grace. Help me not to remain stagnant, but to grow daily in grace and in the knowledge of who You are. Shape my character, deepen my faith, and let my life glorify You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Feed Your Soul: Spend at least 15 minutes today reading Scripture slowly, asking God to speak to you.
- Take a Step: Choose one habit that will help you grow spiritually this week—prayer, Bible study, or fellowship.
- Encourage Growth: Share one truth you’re learning with someone else today.
