Our Spiritual Bankruptcy

Evang Ps. Kenneth Nandoha

Evang Ps. Kenneth Nandoha

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23

Introduction:
As we continue our journey of understanding the need for spiritual rebirth, let’s turn to Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This verse emphasizes the consequences of sin and our need for divine intervention.

The Cost of Sin:
Sin carries a heavy cost—spiritual death. It separates us from God and leaves us in a state of spiritual bankruptcy. The consequences of sin are not limited to this life but extend to eternity.

Our Inability to Pay the Debt:
Just as a person in financial bankruptcy cannot repay their debts on their own, we, in our spiritual bankruptcy, are incapable of paying the debt of sin through our efforts or good deeds. Our righteousness is like filthy rags before the holiness of God (Isaiah 64:6).

The Hope of God’s Gift:
Amidst our spiritual bankruptcy, there is hope. God offers us a gift, eternal life in Christ Jesus. This gift is not something we can earn or deserve but is freely given to all who accept it.

Recognizing Our Need for Redemption:
To receive this gift, we must first recognize our need for redemption. It requires humility to acknowledge our spiritual bankruptcy and our inability to save ourselves.

Today’s Blessings:
Heavenly Father, Your Word reminds us of the heavy cost of sin and our spiritual bankruptcy. We humbly admit that we cannot repay this debt on our own. Thank You for the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus, which You offer freely. May this understanding deepen our awareness of our need for spiritual rebirth and our dependence on Your grace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
