Restoring Your Heart to God
A young man once shared how he grew up in church, knew the Scriptures, and served in ministry, but slowly his heart drifted. Caught up in business and personal pursuits, he felt far from God. One day, while sitting alone after a hard season, he opened his Bible, and the words “Return to Me” struck him deeply. At that moment, he wept and prayed, “Lord, I’m coming home.” His life changed as God’s peace returned to his heart.
God’s call to His people remains the same:
“Return to Me, and I will return to you,” Says the LORD of hosts.
Malachi 3:7 (NKJV)
Reflection:
The people of Israel had drifted from God, becoming careless in worship, withholding what belonged to Him, and living with divided hearts. Yet, God’s love never changed. Instead of rejecting them, He called them back: “Return to Me.”
Many believers today may be physically present in church and ministry but spiritually distant. We can become busy with life, burdened by sin, or distracted by the world, allowing our hearts to wander. Yet God, in His mercy, still calls us, “Return to Me.”
Returning to God is not simply about outward acts but about restoring your heart, priorities, and devotion to Him. It means surrendering what you have held back, confessing where you have drifted, and choosing to walk in obedience again.
Tonight, before you sleep, examine your heart. Is there an area where God is calling you to return? His promise is sure: “I will return to you.” He is ready to renew your spirit and restore fellowship if you draw near to Him.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unfailing love and mercy. Forgive me for the times I have drifted from You. Tonight, I choose to return to You with all my heart. Restore my spirit, renew my devotion, and help me walk closely with You each day. Thank You for Your promise that when I return to You, You will return to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Reflect on your relationship with God. Is there any area where you have drifted and need to return?
- Spend 10 minutes tonight in quiet prayer, confessing and surrendering to God.
- Write down one change you will make this week to keep your heart close to Him.
