Seated in Heavenly Places

Living from Victory, Not for It

In 1969, a young man named John returned from war with deep emotional scars. He felt broken, unworthy, and distant from God. A friend invited him to a church service where the pastor preached from Ephesians about our identity in Christ. That night, John wept, not from guilt, but from the realization that he didn’t have to earn God’s approval. He was already accepted, already seated in a place of honor, not because of who he was, but because of where Christ had placed him.

Paul writes this profound truth in his letter to the church in Ephesus:

“…and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”
Ephesians 2:6 (NKJV)

Reflection:

Too often, we live as if we’re trying to climb our way up to God’s favor. We strive, we perform, we exhaust ourselves spiritually, forgetting that in Christ, we’ve already been seated. That’s not future tense. That’s present reality.

To be seated with Christ means we share in His victory. It means we’re no longer slaves to sin or shame. It means our position is secure, not because of our effort, but because of His grace.

Paul doesn’t say we’ll be seated one day. He says we are. Right now. In Christ.

So today, walk not with striving, but with assurance. You’re not fighting for victory, you’re living from it.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for raising me up with Christ and seating me in heavenly places. Help me live today with confidence, not in myself, but in Your grace. Let me rest in the truth of who I am in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Challenge:

  1. Shift Your Posture: When anxiety or pressure rises today, remind yourself: “I am seated with Christ.”
  2. Replace Striving with Rest: Schedule a quiet moment today to stop, breathe, and remember that your place in God’s family is already secured.
  3. Encourage Someone’s Identity: Speak life into someone who feels like they’re not enough. Remind them of where they’re seated in Christ.
