The Power of Christ in Our Frailty
In 1957, a young missionary named Jim Elliot gave his life trying to reach an unreached tribe in the jungles of Ecuador. He knew the risks, yet he wrote in his journal: “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” Jim and his companions were martyred, but their story became a testimony of strength rising out of weakness, because God’s power was revealed in their surrender.
The Apostle Paul reminds us of a similar truth in his letter to the Corinthians:
“And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)
Reflection:
We live in a world that idolizes strength, success, and self-sufficiency. But God often does His greatest work through the weakest vessels. When Paul cried out to God about his “thorn in the flesh,” God didn’t remove it. Instead, He offered grace. Sustaining grace. Empowering grace.
Are you feeling worn out, discouraged, or inadequate? That’s exactly where God’s power shines brightest. The world sees weakness as a liability, but in the Kingdom of God, weakness is a doorway for divine strength.
Jesus doesn’t need your perfection, He desires your surrender. Whatever thorn you carry today, whether it’s physical pain, emotional burden, or spiritual struggle, let it become the platform where Christ’s power rests upon you.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your amazing grace. In my moments of weakness, help me to lean on Your strength. Teach me to boast not in what I can do, but in what You can do through me. Let Your power rest upon my life and shine through every frailty. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Identify Your “Thorn”: Write down one area of struggle you’re facing today and ask God to use it for His glory.
- Memorize the Verse: Keep 2 Corinthians 12:9 with you, on a card, in your phone, or heart, and recite it during your day.
- Encourage the Weary: Reach out to someone who feels like giving up and remind them: God’s grace is sufficient.
