Refuge in the Day of Trouble
Watchman Nee, the Chinese church leader, was imprisoned for his faith for more than 20 years. Despite harsh conditions and isolation, he wrote letters and teachings that strengthened millions of believers worldwide. His unshakable trust was anchored in the truth that God is a refuge, even in suffering.
Nahum declared this same hope for God’s people:
“The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble;
And He knows those who trust in Him.”
Nahum 1:7 (NKJV)
Reflection:
The world around Nahum was filled with fear and oppression, yet he proclaimed a God who is good, strong, and trustworthy. Watchman Nee’s life mirrored this, though outwardly crushed, inwardly he rested in God’s strength.
Trouble may come, but God is not shaken. He is our stronghold, our refuge, and our safe place. The question is; are we trusting Him fully?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that You are my refuge in times of trouble. Strengthen my trust in You, no matter the storms I face. Help me to rest in Your goodness and find peace in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Identify: Name one “day of trouble” you are facing.
- Declare: Speak Nahum 1:7 over that situation.
- Encourage: Share this verse with someone going through hardship.
