Resting in God’s Deliverance
In 1863, during the American Civil War, a small regiment found themselves surrounded and outnumbered. Their leader told the men, “Hold your position. Reinforcements are coming.” Hours later, help arrived, and the enemy fled. Years later, one soldier said, “The hardest part wasn’t fighting, it was standing still and trusting our commander.”
The Israelites faced a similar moment at the Red Sea, with Pharaoh’s army behind them and the water before them. God spoke through Moses:
“The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
Exodus 14:14 (NKJV)
Reflection:
When danger and fear close in, our first instinct is to panic or take matters into our own hands. But sometimes, God calls us to stand still, not in passivity, but in faith.
The Israelites couldn’t part the sea, and neither can we move the impossible barriers in our lives by sheer willpower. But God can.
Trusting Him means believing that He sees the battle, knows the enemy’s strength, and has already written the victory.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for fighting battles I cannot win on my own. Teach me to hold my peace when fear rises, and to trust that You are working for my good and Your glory. I rest tonight in the assurance that You are my Defender. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Identify Your Red Sea: What situation feels impossible right now? Name it in prayer.
- Stand Still in Faith: Resist the urge to rush ahead, wait for God’s direction.
- Declare Victory: Before you see it, thank God for the deliverance He will bring.
