Letting Go So You Can Rise
Years ago, a man visited Billy Graham’s crusade with a heavy heart. He had carried bitterness toward someone for decades. That night, he gave his life to Christ and forgave the one who had hurt him. Through tears he said, “Tonight, I feel lighter. Like a prisoner set free.”
Jesus taught us that forgiveness is not optional for His followers; it’s essential.
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
Matthew 6:14 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Forgiveness isn’t about forgetting what happened; it’s about releasing the power it has over you. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He didn’t separate receiving forgiveness from giving it. They’re two sides of the same coin.
When we forgive, we reflect God’s mercy. We break the chains of bitterness. We make space in our hearts for healing and peace.
Is it easy? No. But it’s powerful. Forgiveness doesn’t mean weakness. It means trusting God with justice while walking in freedom.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for forgiving me through Jesus Christ. Help me to forgive those who have hurt me. I release bitterness, anger, and offense. Teach me to walk in mercy and grace today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Search your heart: Is there someone you need to forgive? Write their name and release them in prayer.
- Act in grace: If possible, reach out with kindness, even if it’s a small gesture.
- Meditate: Spend time in Matthew 6:12–15 and reflect on God’s mercy toward you.
