Faith in Action Through Love
During the early 1900s, a small missionary in Africa took in weary travellers and students into his modest home, providing food, shelter, and encouragement. One of the young men later wrote, “It was not the sermons alone, it was the love shown through hospitality that shaped my faith.”
The Apostle John commends a believer named Gaius for doing the same:
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth in you, indeed, you walk in truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”
3 John 1:2–4 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Faith is not just belief; it is action. Gaius’ spiritual life was evident in his hospitality and support for travelling ministers of the Gospel. When we live in truth and love, our faith becomes tangible—blessing others and glorifying God.
Even small acts of kindness, encouragement, or generosity reflect Christ. Your everyday obedience, welcoming someone, helping a neighbour and praying for a friend, demonstrates that your soul is prospering.
Walking in truth is the foundation. Walking in love is the fruit. Both are essential to a vibrant, effective Christian life.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to walk in truth and show Your love in practical ways. Let my faith be visible through my actions and my care for others. May my life bring joy to You and encouragement to those around me. In Your name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Practice Hospitality: Find one way today to encourage, welcome, or help someone in need.
- Reflect Truth: Ask God to reveal areas where your actions may not fully reflect His truth.
- Share Joy: Testify to someone how God has worked in your life this week, encouraging them to walk in truth.
