The Balance of Christian Living
Archbishop Benson Idahosa of Nigeria often declared, “Your faith must have feet. It must walk in love, and it must walk in truth. Anything else is not Christianity.” His ministry combined boldness in truth with deep compassion for people, showing Africa and the world what it means to live a Christ-centred life.
John, writing to the church, emphasised this same balance:
“I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, as we received commandment from the Father. And now I plead with you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another.”
2 John 1:4–5 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Truth without love becomes harsh. Love without truth becomes shallow. But when the two walk together, Christ is revealed.
Benson Idahosa modelled this: fearless in preaching truth, yet generous in acts of love. John reminds us that both are not optional; they are the foundation of Christian living.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to walk daily in both truth and love. Let my faith be real, balanced, and Christ-centred. Teach me to speak truth boldly and love deeply, just as You do. Amen.
Challenge:
- Examine: Am I leaning more toward truth without love, or love without truth?
- Act: Today, show love to someone in a practical way while holding firm to God’s Word.
- Encourage: Share 2 John 1:4–5 with a friend and discuss how to live it out.
