Living Humbly and Walking with God
A prominent lawyer once boasted to a preacher, “I keep the Ten Commandments and help the poor. Isn’t that enough for God?” The preacher gently responded, “God’s not impressed with your résumé. He’s looking for your heart.”
The prophet Micah speaks directly to this in one of the most beautiful and challenging verses in the Old Testament:
“He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
Micah 6:8 (NKJV)
Reflection:
In a world that measures value by performance, God turns things upside down. He doesn’t ask for perfection or endless sacrifices—He wants a heart that lives rightly, loves deeply, and walks closely with Him.
To do justly is to live with integrity, standing for truth even when it’s costly.
To love mercy is to forgive freely, even when it’s hard.
To walk humbly is to remember that every breath we have is a gift—and we are totally dependent on Him.
This verse simplifies what can often feel complicated. God isn’t demanding religious performance, He’s inviting us into relationship.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me what is good. Help me to act justly in every situation, to love mercy when it’s hard, and to walk humbly before You each day. I want my life to reflect Your heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Justice: Look for one practical way today to stand up for what’s right, whether big or small.
- Mercy: Forgive someone or show kindness where it’s undeserved.
- Humility: Spend time in prayer thanking God for His grace instead of focusing on your efforts.
