Seeking God in Times of Trouble
During the 1930s, when famine struck parts of Africa, local church leaders gathered their communities to pray, fast, and seek God’s mercy. People reported that even the smallest rain showers felt miraculous, and the revival that followed transformed hearts and lives.
In 2 Chronicles, King Jehoshaphat faced a vast army threatening Judah. His response was not panic but prayer:
“Then Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. So Judah gathered together to seek help from the Lord; indeed they came from every city of Judah to seek the Lord.”
2 Chronicles 20:3–4 (NKJV)
Reflection:
When overwhelming challenges arise, our natural instinct is often fear or self-reliance. But God calls His people to first seek Him. Jehoshaphat’s leadership shows that corporate prayer, fasting, and dependence on God invite His intervention.
Notice how God responded: He didn’t just give strategies, He gave victory. The army that seemed unbeatable was defeated before Judah even fought. God honours those who earnestly seek Him, showing that spiritual victory comes from His power, not ours.
Today, whatever battles you face, financial, relational or emotional, your first response should be seeking God’s face. Prayer and repentance unlock His supernatural help.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to seek You first in every challenge. Help me to trust in Your power, not my own strength. Guide my steps, hear my prayers, and show me victory in Your perfect timing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Set a Prayer Time: Spend at least 15 minutes tonight in prayer and seeking God’s guidance.
- Fasting for Focus: Consider a small fast tomorrow to dedicate your heart fully to God’s purposes.
- Encourage Others: Invite a friend or family member to join you in prayer for a current challenge.
