God’s Call for Righteous Living
In 1963, during the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and cried out: “We will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.” His words echoed the ancient cry of the prophet Amos.
“But let justice run down like water, and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
Amos 5:24 (NKJV)
Reflection:
The people of Israel in Amos’ time were outwardly religious but inwardly corrupt. God rejected empty rituals and demanded justice and righteousness. True worship is not just in songs or ceremonies but in how we treat others.
God still calls us today: to live justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him. Our faith must overflow into actions of kindness, fairness, and compassion.
Prayer:
Lord, forgive me where I have honored You with my lips but not with my actions. Teach me to live a life of justice and righteousness that pleases You. May my worship be both in word and deed. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
- Examine: Ask yourself are there areas where I need to live more justly?
- Act Justly: Do one practical act of kindness or fairness this week.
- Share the Call: Encourage someone with Amos 5:24 as a reminder of God’s heart for justice.
